ALSCON sponsors second edition of quiz competition in Ikot Abasi

The Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria(ALSCON), managed by RUSAL, has sponsored the second edition of quiz competition for secondary schools in Ikot Abasi local government area of Akwa Ibom state.

The Aluminum Smelter Company of Nigeria(ALSCON), managed by RUSAL, has sponsored the second edition of quiz competition for secondary schools in Ikot Abasi local government area of Akwa Ibom state.

The quiz competition, which is in fulfilment of the company's corporate social responsibility (CSR) was organised by the Community Education Development Initiative(CEDI).

At the end of the contest, St Theresa Model High School, Ikot Abasi won the first position, ALSCON Staff school, Ikot Abasi came second while Midtown Secondary Commercial school came third.

The Acting Managing Director of the company, Engineer Ime Inyang said that RUSAL-ALSCON takes its corporate social responsibility seriously.

Inyang maintained that the company will continue to assist it's host communities with infrastructural, educational and skills development.

Inyang said: "I want to thank especially the teachers from the different schools. We have seen what you have impacted on the students and we want to encourage you to do more for your students because they are actually the leaders of tomorrow.

"If they are equipped with the proper knowledge at this stage by the time they get into the world they would be able to impact positively on the society.

"On behalf of RUSAL-ALSCON I want to reaffirm the commitment of the company to infrastructural development while improving the standard of learning in Ikot Abasi".

The Director Government and Public Affairs, Mr Alexander Ashkinazi said that the company pays attention to education in its host communities and assured of the company's support for the initiative.

Ashkinazi said: "We always pay a lot of attention to education. We are trying to support whatever initiative we have. We have the secondary school quiz and this is the second year we are having it. And you can see how magnificent it was".

Chairman of the occasion Mr Uyoatta Abraham commended ALSCON for their corporate social responsibility in fostering peace ans enhancing education initiative in Ikot Abasi.

The coordinator of CEDI, Mr Uboho James said that the initiative harps on the ability of the students to identify their challenges and navigating through them.

James said, "Thank you RUSAL ALSCON because in terms of community partnership, community programmes and corporate social responsibility you have been topnotch".
