From Osagie Otabor, Benin

The Nigerian Army has formally pulled out 18 retired senior officers of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport (NACST).

The officers were honoured at the end of a three-day conference held in Benin City, themed “Optimising ST Capabilities towards Providing Effective Service Delivery to NA Operations in all Missions.”

Speaking on behalf of the retirees, Olaniyi Dare said their careers spanned several decades, during which they served in various operational, command, and staff roles within the Army.

Dare noted that the Corps of Supply and Transport plays a central and indispensable role in the operational effectiveness of the Nigerian Army, particularly in sustaining troops across different theatres of operation.

He emphasised that the corps has remained committed to delivering reliable and efficient logistics support, whether during training exercises, peace support missions, or internal security operations within and outside the country.

"I am particularly proud of the progress and transformation that the Corps has witnessed over the years. The Corps has continued to strengthen its operational capacity, improve professional standards, and adapt to the evolving demands of modern military operations.

"As we transition into retirement, we recognise that while we may be leaving active service, our commitment to the ideals and values of the Nigerian Army remains steadfast. We will continue to serve as ambassadors of the Corps of Supply and Transport and remain available to contribute our experience and knowledge whenever called upon."

Corps Commander of the Nigerian Army Corps of Supply and Transport, Major General Danjuma Shagaya, said the retired Generals have served the Nation for decades, from when they got commissioned to their retirement.

"It is customary that officers are allowed to celebrate their time in service.

"We have four Major Generals and 14 Brigadier Generals who were retired due to time in service. This is a happy moment for the Corps and Transport."
