From Fanen Ihyongo, Kano

A Federal High Court in Kano has declined an application by Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam Gwarzo to stop his impeachment process.

Gwarzo's lawyer, Umar Danbaito, had filed an ex parte application seeking an interim injunction to halt the process initiated by the Kano State House of Assembly.

Justice S.M Shaibu ruled that Gwarzo didn't meet the requirements for the interim orders, and instead ordered the deputy governor to serve the respondents with the court processes, to allow them to respond.

The Kano State Assembly had served Gwarzo a notice of impeachment, citing financial impropriety and abuse of office, giving him two weeks to defend himself.

Thirty-eight APC lawmakers and two NNPP members signed the notice, alleging Gwarzo collected N1.5 million monthly from each council, totaling N462 million, and received N726 million for special assignments.

He's also accused of facilitating N440 million release to Novomed Pharmaceuticals, violating state laws.

The court adjourned the matter to April 16, 2026.
