The Committee of Wives of Lagos State Officials (COWLSO), through its School Committee, has donated educational materials to select schools across the state, with a focus on inclusive education.

The event, held at the First Lady’s Banquet Hall, Lagos House, Ikeja, marked the rollout of Project 3.0, an intervention targeting special and inclusive schools.

Chairperson of COWLSO School Committee, Dr. Ibijoke Sanwo-Olu, said the initiative built on previous interventions designed to improve learning conditions in public schools.

She said Projects 1.0 and 2.0 covered 24 schools, with investments running into tens of millions of naira, providing classroom renovations, water facilities, laboratory equipment, beds for boarding schools and perimeter fencing.

According to her, Project 3.0 expands the scope to include children with special needs, stressing that no child should be left behind in the state’s education drive.

“We are here because we recognise that children with disabilities also deserve quality education and support. This project is focused on inclusive schools to ensure every child, regardless of physical condition, has access to the tools needed to learn and thrive,” she said.

She noted that the idea for the intervention was inspired by a visit to a school for visually-impaired pupils, where their resilience underscored the need for targeted support.

Describing the journey as both emotional and motivating, she said the committee was moved to act after witnessing the determination and confidence of the pupils despite their challenges.

The coordinator added that 24 schools are benefiting from the current phase, with items carefully selected to enhance teaching and learning in special education environments.

She commended members of the committee for their commitment, describing them as “dedicated women working to touch lives and improve the future of children across Lagos State.”

Mrs Sanwo-Olu expressed appreciation to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu for his continued support for the education sector, noting that the initiative aligned with his administration’s agenda on inclusive development.

She said the committee would continue monitoring beneficiary schools to ensure proper use of the materials and sustainability of the intervention.

The COWLSO School Committee intervention is one of several social impact programmes aimed at improving public education and supporting vulnerable groups in Lagos State.
