District Governor-elect of Rotary International District 9127, Sikiru Adetona Owonikoko, has outlined a technology-driven and discipline-focused leadership agenda for the 2026–2027 Rotary year, declaring that digital transformation and accountability will be institutionalised across the district.
Owonikoko spoke at the 2026–2027 District Learning Seminars at the Nigerian Army Resource Centre, Asokoro, Abuja, where he addressed incoming Rotary leaders and members.
The training brought together members of the Board of Trustees and other district leaders to review the district governor-elect’s agenda and align it with the tenure plans unveiled at the international assembly.
The governor-elect is scheduled to assume office on July 1.

Owonikoko said Rotary must embrace technology and artificial intelligence to remain relevant and effective, noting that the district has already subscribed to AI-powered platforms for the next three years.
“One of the enduring legacies of this administration will be our deliberate and structured adoption of Artificial Intelligence and digital systems.
“This is not an experiment. It is a commitment to efficiency, transparency, and excellence,” he said.
According to him, all District events will be planned and tracked using a unified District Events Management Application, while official information will be communicated in real time to Rotarians worldwide.
“Technology will no longer be optional in District 9127. It will be institutionalized,” he added.
The District Governor-Elect also stressed discipline as a core pillar of his administration, covering time management, financial stewardship, reporting, communication protocols and respect for leadership structures.
“Discipline is not punishment. Discipline is respect for standards. It is what separates intention from excellence,” he said.

He urged clubs and leaders to actively engage with Rotary’s digital platforms, including the My Rotary portal and Learning Centre, and maintain purposeful social media engagement.
“The world is moving rapidly. Rotary must not stand still. We cannot lead tomorrow’s communities with yesterday’s tools,” Owonikoko said.
He said his administration would build “a digitally enabled Rotary, a disciplined Rotary, a future-ready Rotary, and a people-centred Rotary.”
Speaking on the significance of the meeting, a member of the Board of Trustees of The Rotary Foundation, Pearl Ijeoma Okoro, a seasoned Nigerian described it as the first formal engagement of stakeholders who will drive the district’s programmes during the incoming administration.
The meeting, the Trustee said, provided a platform to review plans, exchange ideas and agree on implementation strategies.

District Governor, Dame Princess Joy Okoro, said the training followed the pattern of similar learning sessions held in previous years and was necessary to ensure continuity and preparedness.
She explained that the Rotary International Assembly serves as the final stage of orientation for incoming district governors.
According to her, the DG-elect convened the meeting to share lessons from the assembly and prepare officers to support the administration, noting that District 9127 covers 16 States and the Federal Capital Territory.
She added that the engagement was designed to equip district officers with the knowledge required to manage programmes effectively during the 2026–27 Rotary year, which runs from July 1, this year, to June 30, 2027.
The event also featured the decoration of Rotarain Yusuf Alli, with a badge of honour by Okoro for his dedication to Rotary.
