Wife of Ejigbo Local Council Development Area (LCDA) Chairman, Mrs. Modupe Aisha Taiwo, has charged residents to prioritise early detection, proper treatment, and collective action in the fight against Tuberculosis (TB).

This is as the council joined the global community to commemorate World Tuberculosis Day 2026.

Mrs Taiwo spoke during an awareness walk and free medical outreach organised by the Chairman, Aare Taoheed Adebayo Taiwo.

She noted that TB remains a major public health concern that requires sustained awareness and active community participation for effective eradication.

“Tuberculosis is both preventable and curable, yet many people still suffer due to late diagnosis and stigma. We must break the silence, encourage testing, and support those undergoing treatment,” she said.

The sensitisation exercise, which featured a road walk from the Council Secretariat to Oba Ojon Market, Iyana-Ejigbo, was aimed at educating residents on the causes, symptoms, prevention, and treatment of TB.

Health officials provided free TB screening, medical consultations, chest X-rays, blood pressure checks, blood sugar tests, HIV screening, counselling, and general health education for members of the community at Oba Ojon Market.

Mrs Taiwo urged residents to take advantage of the free testing services available at government health facilities, stressing that early detection not only saves lives but also curbs the spread of the disease.

She commended healthcare workers and development partners for their dedication to combating TB, noting that their efforts continue to strengthen grassroots healthcare delivery within the LCDA.

Programme Officer for Tuberculosis, Buruli and Leprosy (TBLS), Mrs. Adebayo Aderonke, highlighted common symptoms of TB, including persistent cough lasting more than two weeks, chest pain, weight loss, and night sweats.
