Ekwueme Square wears new look for Soludo’s inauguration today

Vice President Kashim Shettima, former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan are among eminent Nigerians expected today in Awka, the Anambra State capital, for the second term inauguration ceremony of Governor Chukwuma Soludo.
Already, the Dr. Alex Ekwueme Square, venue of the event, is wearing a new look, while armoured personnel carriers (APCs) have been stationed at the arena and other strategic places in the state.
Soludo will take his oath office for the second term today, having won the November 8, 2025, governorship election in Anambra State, as declared by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
Prof. Soludo won the election on the platform of the All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA).
He defeated the candidates of the All Progressives Congress (APC), the Labour Party (LP), and the Young Progressive Party (YPP), among others.
Other eminent personalities expected at the swearing-in ceremony include former Secretary-General of the Commonwealth, Chief Emeka Anyaoku; Imo State Governor Hope Uzodimma of the APC.
The Nation gathered that all other Southeast governors of Abia, Ebonyi, and Enugu states will attend the ceremony.
On Sunday, Police Commissioner Ikioye Orutugu held a security meeting with the other security agencies in the state, including the Army, the Navy, the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and other paramilitary outfits.

he police command’s spokesman, Tochukwu Ikenga, said the meeting focused on reviewing and fine-tuning the operational strategies outlined in the Police Operation Order to ensure tight security coverage before, during, and after the inauguration ceremony.
He said Orutugu urged the residents to maintain maximum vigilance, strengthen inter-agency collaboration, and ensure a peaceful and secure environment for the residents, dignitaries and the visitors expected at the inauguration
Some of the residents told The Nation that Soludo is a leader of uncompromised stance.
An activist, Osita Obi, said: “Soludo has done well in his first tenure and the people will want him to maintain the momentum.
“Anyone in Anambra who says he or she has not felt the impact of good governance must be a joker. But the people need more, especially on the issue of electricity in the state.”
Also, the APGA-led government in the state has extended its invitation to the APC leadership, led by Senator Emma Anosike, who will lead 11 other top members of the party to the inauguration.
