In Sapele, Delta State, fear and uncertainty have gripped residents, following the recent abduction of the Chairman of Sapele Local Government, Mr. Bright Abeke, who was taken at gunpoint from  Debro Fred Guest House by suspected armed kidnappers.

What began as an ordinary visit quickly turned into a terrifying incident that has left his family, workers and community in distress.

Eyewitness accounts suggested the attack was swift and coordinated, leaving little time for intervention before the assailants whisked him away to an unknown destination.

In the aftermath, the atmosphere in Sapele has been tense, with residents speaking in hushed tones about rising insecurity and the emotional toll on families of public officials and ordinary citizens alike.

The response from authorities has been immediate.

Delta State Commissioner of Police, Yemi Oyeniyi, visited the scene, walking through the premises of the guest house and later proceeding to Ogorode Waterside, where a vehicle allegedly used by the abductors was recovered.

His presence was meant not only to coordinate security operations, but also to reassure a terrified community that efforts are underway to bring the chairman home safely.

Police spokesperson Bright Edafe confirmed that intelligence-led operations are ongoing, involving multiple security agencies working round the clock.

He emphasised that the priority remained the safe rescue of the abducted chairman and the arrest of those responsible.

Beyond official statements, the most painful moment came when the police commissioner met with the chairman’s wife.

According to reports, he offered reassurance that everything possible is being done, a gesture aimed at easing the anxiety of a family suddenly thrown into crisis.

He also visited victims injured during the attack, who are receiving treatment in hospital.

For many residents, the incident is more than just another headline—it is a stark reminder of vulnerability and the emotional weight carried by families of public servants.

The hope now is simple but urgent: that coordinated efforts will lead to the safe return of Abeke and bring relief to a community holding its breath.
