The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has described its win of one out of six Area Council chairmanship seats in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) as proof of its position as Nigeria’s credible and viable alternative platform.
In its first formal response after Saturday’s elections, the PDP National Caretaker Working Committee (NCWC) highlighted the victory of Hon. Mohammed Kasim in Gwagwalada Area Council, alongside the success of several PDP councilors and the strong showing of other party candidates, as evidence of the party’s continued political relevance.
A statement by the party’s national publicity secretary, Hon. Jungudo Haruna Mohammed, called for unity within the PDP and commended the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) and the police for ensuring a smooth election process. It also urged both agencies to address critical gaps in future polls.

“The National Caretaker Working Committee warmly congratulates Hon. Mohammed Kasim on his well-deserved victory in the Gwagwalada Area Council Election,” the statement read. “We also congratulate all victorious PDP councilorship candidates and assure those who did not succeed that their commitment and sacrifices remain deeply valued. This outcome demonstrates that PDP remains a formidable political force.”
“The NCWC emphasizes that the unity of our party is non-negotiable and therefore urges all members to close ranks and rally firmly behind the leadership of Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel N Anyawu as we consolidate on this success and to reposition the Party for greater victories ahead.
“We urge Nigerians not to despair, but to remain steadfast in their belief that the PDP stands as the only credible and viable opposition, as well as the most dependable alternative political platform.
“The Party commends the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) for a smooth conduct of the elections and encourages the Commission to address identified gaps to further enhance future exercises.
“Additionally, we commend the Nigerian Police and all the security agencies for their professionalism and commitment, which greatly contributed to the peaceful conduct of the exercise.
“The party appreciates and commends all our party leaders and loyal party faithful across the FCT particularly those in Gwagwalada, whose dedication, unity, and vigilance ensured that the will of the people prevail and that their votes truly counted; once again, we congratulate Hon. Mohammed Kasim and other Councilors and charged them to justify this mandate through inclusive leadership and impactful service to their people,” Jungudo stated.
