The Nigerian embassy in Iran has evacuated some willing Nigerians across the Armenian border, the Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NiDCOM) has said.

Though NiDCOM could not ascertain the number of Nigerians involved, it said no Nigerian has been affected by the ongoing war between Iran and the United States (U.S.A.) and Israel.

A statement by the commission said the evacuation of willing Nigerians seeking safety was carried out by officials of the Nigerian Embassy in Iran for safe passage.

NIDCOM’s Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Abike Dabiri-Erewa said: “So far, no Nigerian in Iran has been affected by the war, as government officials remain at the border to receive all who want to leave.”

Some Nigerians have indicated interest in being evacuated from the troubled country, following waves of attacks on Iran by Israel and the U.S.

Also, Nigeria’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Ambassador Yusuf Tuggar, has expressed the country’s commitment to constructive multilateral engagement that supports shared progress across the Commonwealth.

A terse statement by the spokesperson of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Dimiebi Imomotimi Ebienfa, said Tuggar spoke at the 26th Commonwealth Foreign Affairs Ministers’ meeting held at Lancaster House in London.

The statement said Tuggar joined fellow ministers from across the Commonwealth to review key global challenges and strengthen coordination ahead of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (#CHOGM).

Discussions, he said, “reinforced the importance of collective action in advancing peace, economic resilience, and democratic governance across member states”.

He added: “Nigeria remains committed to constructive multilateral engagement that supports shared progress across the Commonwealth.”
