The Director-General and Chief Executive Officer of the Nigerian Office for Trade Negotiations, Sanusi Garba Rikiji, has added another academic milestone to his profile after earning a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD) in Security and Strategic Studies from Nasarawa State University.

Rikiji has built a reputation across Nigeria’s political and administrative space, having served in several high-level roles. He was a two-time Speaker of the Zamfara State House of Assembly and also held positions as Chief of Staff to the Speaker of the 9th House of Representatives, Chairman of the Conference of Northern States Speakers, Acting Governor of Zamfara State, and Commissioner of Finance. He also served twice as Special Adviser on Public-Private Partnership and Poverty Alleviation, where he was involved in policy and development initiatives.

Academically, Rikiji is an alumnus of Ahmadu Bello University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Education and a Master’s degree in International Affairs and Diplomacy. His latest academic pursuit in Security and Strategic Studies is seen as a move that further equips him with the knowledge required to engage in critical national conversations around security, diplomacy, and governance.

Colleagues and associates have often described Rikiji as a leader with a strong sense of responsibility, noting his contributions to governance and institutional development over the years. His career has been marked by involvement in both legislative leadership and executive responsibilities, positioning him as a key figure in public administration.

The conferment of the PhD underscores the growing intersection between academic advancement and leadership, highlighting the role of continuous learning in public service. It also reflects Rikiji’s commitment to personal development and national progress.

With the new academic honour, Rikiji joins a growing list of Nigerian public officials who are combining governance experience with advanced scholarly achievements, reinforcing the importance of education in leadership and policy development.
