The Equator is an imaginary line that divides the Earth into the Northern and Southern Hemispheres.

In Africa, this line passes through a handful of countries, giving them a unique geographical position marked by relatively consistent daylight hours and warm tropical climates throughout the year.

Here are African countries associated with the Equatorial region, either because the Equator passes directly through them or due to their close proximity:

1. Gabon

Gabon is the first African country the Equator crosses as it enters the continent from the Atlantic Ocean. The country is known for its dense rainforests, rich biodiversity, and equatorial climate.

2. Republic of the Congo (Congo-Brazzaville)

The Equator cuts through the northern part of the Republic of the Congo. The country features tropical forests and a climate shaped largely by its equatorial location.

3. Democratic Republic of the Congo (DR Congo)

DR Congo has the longest stretch of the Equator running through it in Africa. Its vast rainforests, including much of the Congo Basin, are directly influenced by equatorial weather patterns.

4. Uganda

Uganda is one of the most notable equatorial countries in East Africa. Popular landmarks marking the Equator can be found in the country, making it a major tourist attraction.

5. Kenya

The Equator passes through central Kenya, including areas near Mount Kenya. Despite its equatorial position, the country experiences varied climates due to altitude differences.

6. Somalia

Although often associated with the Horn of Africa, Somalia does not lie on the Equator. The country is located entirely north of it but remains within the tropical zone.

7. São Tomé and Príncipe

This island nation in the Gulf of Guinea lies directly on the Equator, which passes through the southern part of São Tomé Island. It is one of the smallest African countries with an equatorial location.
