Ondo State chapter of All Progressives Congress (APC) Elders Movement has condemned the brutal assault on the party’s state Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, and other leaders during a stakeholders meeting at the APC secretariat in Akure.

In a statement yesterday, the Coordinator of Ondo APC Elders Movement, Otunba Agboola Kelly, described the incident as an unacceptable affront to democratic norms and party discipline.

The attack, which occurred on Tuesday ahead of the party’s ward congresses, involved armed political thugs, who stormed the secretariat, disrupted proceedings and physically assaulted party officials, leaving several injured, including the chairman.

He expressed deep concern about the rising wave of intra-party violence in Ondo State, stressing that such acts undermined the unity and progress of APC at a critical time when the party should be focused on consolidating its gains and preparing for future electoral challenges.

“We really need to address and condemn this attack unequivocally.

“Violence has no place in our party, and those behind or sponsoring such thuggery must be held accountable to prevent a recurrence.”

Kelly, who is also the secretary of Elders of All Progressives Congress in the state, hailed the groups aligned with national leadership and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s vision.

He praised the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his efforts in rallying support across the state and working harmoniously with pro-Tinubu organisations.

“While Tunji-Ojo fondly known as BTO has demonstrated commitment by supporting groups working for Tinubu’s 2027 re-election, certain elements appear more focused on pursuing personal, unconstitutional agendas, including whispers of a third-term ambition that runs counter to established democratic principles and the president’s leadership,”

He specifically referenced ongoing legal and political manoeuvres, including appeals against judgments on local government funds release, which he described as attempts to frustrate grassroots mobilisation and hinder the operations of Tinubu support groups in Ondo State.

“These actions are clearly anti-Tinubu in intent and effect, as they seek to stifle legitimate advocacy and loyalty to the national leader, who has steered Nigeria through challenging times with the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he noted.
