Heartland FC Technical Manager, Emmanuel Amuneke has expressed shock  over the loss of its former General Coordinator, Tonnex Chukwu,  noting that his experience was invaluable to the club.

“I am deeply shocked by the news of Tonnex Chukwu’s death. He was a thorough professional whose insight and dedication stood him out. This is a painful loss for Heartland FC and the entire football family. He will be greatly missed,” Amuneke stated.

Similarly, the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Imo State Chapter expressed deep sorrow over the tragic death of former Enyimba FC Media Officer and ex-Heartland FC official, Mr. Tonnex Chukwu.

Chukwu, who died from injuries sustained in a recent road crash, was widely respected in the sporting community for his professionalism, humility and unwavering commitment to football development in Nigeria. His passing has left colleagues, friends and stakeholders in deep mourning.

A seasoned sports journalist, Chukwu served as Media Officer of Enyimba FC before taking up roles as General Coordinator, Protocol and Licensing Officer at Heartland FC. In the three capacities, he distinguished himself through diligence, competence, and a strong grasp of football administration and media relations. His contributions significantly enhanced operational standards and strengthened relationships within the football ecosystem.

Reacting to the sad development, Chairman of Imo SWAN,  Cosmos Chukwuemeka, described the late Chukwu as a committed journalist and sports administrator who embodied excellence.

“The death of Tonnex Chukwu is a devastating blow to the sports writing fraternity in Imo State and the Nigerian football community. He was a thorough professional, a dependable colleague, and a passionate advocate for the growth of sports. We have lost not just a colleague, but a brother and friend,” Chukwuemeka said.
