The lawmaker representing Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, Hon. Kalejaiye Adeboye Paul (Ph.D) has assured his constituents that he will continue to deliver effective and responsive representation.
He made the promise while giving an account of his stewardship in the last two years in office as a lawmaker at his constituency office situated in Lagos.
Hon. Kalejaiye emphasised that in the last two years, he has brought remarkable development, empowerment, health initiatives, infrastructural progress to Ajeromi Ifelodun Federal Constituency in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.
Some of the bills which Hon. Kalejaiye has pushed on the floor of the house includes: "A bill for an act to establish the Ibile entrepreneur university, Lagos; A bill for an act to establish the national institute of Journalism and Media studies; and a bill for an act to prohibit fuel scooping from accidented petroleum tankers.
According to him, some of the motions he proposed and passed in the over 2 years of representing his constituency includes: "Expansion of the Nigeria Police Academy; Rehabilitation of Kirikiri Federal Road; Free health check desks at Airports; Promotion of local languages in schools; Facilitating job placements for constituents in federal parastatals, amongst others.
Some other achievements includes; Palliative distribution, ICT Youth Empowerment, medical outreach, Solar Street light project, mega empowerment programme including distribution of motorcycles, tricycles, sewing machines, grinding machines, standing dryers.
In his speech, he said; “I promised during my first term that I will give a voice to my constituency. I hardly think that there's any House member who do not know me by my name.
“As legislators, our primary duties are summed up into representation, law-making and oversight, and we are often constrained by the boundaries of these roles, but however, we are ensure that our constituents are enjoying the dividends of democracy.
“I've positioned myself formidably in the House. I don't miss sittings except maybe when I go on oversight functions. Mr. Speaker calls me Mr. Communicator.
“As we look forward to re-election, I will re-prioritise my programme to focus on the youth. For example, the Ajegunle Press Centre is largely under utilised, but I met with hiccups in getting the facility to be released to us to build a vocational centre. I have approached head of the SDGs, Hon. Adejoke Adefuilre to seek for funding. We are not giving up on it.
“We've programmes for women, artisans, traders, and others. The women and youth constituency are the bedrock of the society.
“I will ensure that I dedicate more in ensuring that whatever constituency project is done, proper needs assessment is done. I will also focus on party concerns. It takes a lot to be a party member.
“I have also ensured that there's electricity improvement, education development, market women empowerment, skills acquisition, financial support for constituents."
During his address, Hon. Kalejaiye urged his constituents to continue supporting President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, commending his tireless efforts to ensure the country’s progress and the security of its citizens, despite prevailing global situation.
He said: “President Tinubu is doing tremendously well. We all need to come to appreciate what he's doing. The Renewed Hope Agenda is a collective agenda for all of us. Let's think about it. Surely, he's going to spend 8 years.
“What the president is doing for us is enormous. If we had not have him as our president, the Nation will have gone into precipe. President Tinubu has the intellect, vision and ability to transform the Nation."
Hon. Kalejaiye also pledged to continue to lobby for initiatives that would advance the development and progress of Ajeromi Ifelodun,and most importantly justify the confidence reposed in him by articulating the interests of the constituency in the Green Chamber.
