The Inspector-General of Police (IGP), Kayode Egbetokun on Friday ordered the redeployment of Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) ahead of Saturday’s Area Council elections.
FCT Commissioner of Police (CP), Miller Dantawaye, who disclosed this confirmed that the redeployment has been carried out.
Dantawaye said the proactive measure is part of a comprehensive security arrangement aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness, and upholding the highest standards of professionalism before, during, and after the FCT Area Council Elections.

According to a statement issued by the FCT Police Public Relations Officer, SP Josephine Adeh, “The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye as directed by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, has redeployed and reshuffled Divisional Police Officers (DPOs) across the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the FCT Area Council Elections coming up on Saturday, 21st February, 2026.
“The Commissioner of Police, FCT Command, CP Miller Dantawaye, while complying with the directive of the Inspector General of Police, charged the affected Divisional Police Officers to discharge their duties with utmost professionalism, impartiality, and dedication”.
He emphasised the Command’s commitment to safeguarding the electoral process and guaranteeing a free, fair, and credible election.
The statement said, “The FCT Police Command urges all residents to remain peaceful, law abiding, and actively participate in the democratic process by exercising their civic responsibility on Election Day.
“The Command further informs members of the public that there will be a restriction of movement across the FCT from 8:00 PM 20th February 2026, to 6:00 PM 21st February, 2026, except for essential service providers and election officials.
“Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and promptly report any suspicious persons or activities to the FCT Police Command through the following emergency lines: 08032003913 and 08061581938.”
