The Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen Waidi Shaibu, has approved the deployment of the Chief of Army Staff Intervention Battalion, a special forces unit, to Plateau State to tackle the recent resurgence of terrorist and related security threats.
The Media Information Officer, Joint Task Force Operation Enduring Peace, Captain Chinonso Polycarp Oteh, made this known in a statement.
He said the troops, who have arrived in the state, were received at the Headquarters of 3 Division of the Nigerian Army by the Chief of Staff, Operation Enduring Peace, Brig.-Gen Senlong Sule who stood in for General Officer Commanding (GOC) 3 Division/Commander, Joint Task Force, Operation Enduring Peace, Maj.-Gen Folusho Oyinlola

The GOC urged them to be firm, decisive, and uncompromising in their operations. He commended the leadership of the Chief of Army Staff for approving the deployment and for providing logistics to ensure the effective execution of the troops’ mandate, Oteh added.

Gen. Oyinlola also appealed to residents of Plateau to remain calm over the increased movement of troops and heavy military equipment. He expressed appreciation to citizens for their continued support to the military and called for enhanced cooperation through the provision of timely intelligence on criminals.
He noted that such collaboration would aid the ongoing operations and contribute to the restoration of lasting peace and security in the state.
The deployment forms part of the efforts by the Army to reinforce security operations and curb criminal activities threatening lives and property in Plateau.
However, over 170 troops have been deployed to Wase town to contain terrorism.
