The management of Kaduna Polytechnic has ordered an investigation into an incident in which some students were reportedly barred from attending lectures over alleged violation of the institution’s dress code policy.

The action followed a viral video circulating on social media showing members of the Polytechnic’s Dress Code Committee preventing some students of the College of Business and Management Studies (CBMS) from entering lecture halls.

In a statement issued by the institution’s Deputy Registrar, Information and Protocol, Godwin B. Ayegba, the management said the dresses worn by the affected students appeared moderate and appropriate.

According to the management, the students should not have been prevented from attending lectures based on the outfits captured in the viral video.

Kaduna Polytechnic explained that its dress code policy was introduced to promote decency, professionalism and a conducive learning environment for both students and staff.

The institution noted that the Dress Code Committee is mandated to enforce the policy in line with established institutional guidelines and regulations.

However, management stressed that enforcement must not be carried out in an extreme or arbitrary manner that could undermine students’ access to academic activities.

It added that an investigation had already been initiated to determine the circumstances surrounding the incident and identify any lapses in the implementation of the policy.

The management assured that appropriate measures would be taken to resolve the matter swiftly and prevent a recurrence of overzealous enforcement.

While reaffirming its commitment to the dress code policy, the Polytechnic said students’ rights to education must not be unduly hindered.

Students were also advised to adhere strictly to the institution’s dress guidelines at all times.

Management further urged students with complaints or concerns to channel them through official institutional platforms instead of social media.

Meanwhile, speaking at a joint press conference, SUG President Comrade Ibrahim Abdullahi Mai-Jama’a said Kaduna Polytechnic remained a peaceful and united institution where students from different religious backgrounds coexist harmoniously.
