The Republic of Liberia has appointed Mr. Dapo Akinosun (SAN) as its Honorary Consul in Lagos. He succeeds Dr. Opral Mason Benson.

Akinosun is mandated to represent Liberia’s interests and protect the welfare of her citizens within the consular jurisdiction. He is also expected to promote trade, investment, tourism, and cultural, educational and scientific exchanges between Liberia and Nigeria.

Head of Media, Mr. Oduntan Kehinde Ogundimu, said the official assumption of duty marks a significant milestone for Liberian interests in Nigeria’s commercial hub and reflects that country’s commitment to strengthening bilateral relations and expanding economic cooperation.

In a letter announcing the appointment, Liberia’s Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mme Sara Beysolow Nyanti, said it recognised Akinosun’s commitment to deepening friendship and cooperation between both countries.

Akinosun has served on the boards of corporations in foreign investment, banking and finance, energy and arbitration, with expertise in capital market trading, oil sector privatisation and joint ventures.

“I am deeply honoured to represent Liberia in Nigeria, a country that shares not just a border, but a deep history and kinship with our people,” he said.

He added that his focus would be to promote investment opportunities, facilitate a conducive business environment for Nigerian investors in Liberia, ensure the welfare of Liberian citizens in Lagos, and strengthen people-to-people ties.

The Honorary Consulate in Lagos serves the Liberian community in Nigeria and promotes trade links between both countries.

A Senior Advocate of Nigeria with over three decades’ experience, Akinosun is a founding partner of SimmonsCooper Partners. He is a fellow and member of several professional bodies, including the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators and the International Bar Association.
