Workers in Osun State on Friday endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Asiwaju Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), ahead of the August 15, 2026 election, as part of activities marking the 2026 May Day celebration.
The endorsement was announced by workers under the aegis of the Association of Concerned Local Workers, who also criticised Governor Ademola Adeleke over the suspension of more than 400 council workers for resuming duties with reinstated APC local government executives.
Chairman of the association, Comrade Adedayo Adekunle, who spoke during the event held at the Olorunda Local Government premises, alleged that the lingering council control crisis had taken a toll on workers.
“Since the council control crisis, 54 members of staff have lost their lives across various councils due to frustration, emotional stress, lack of social interaction, and related health challenges,” he said.
Adekunle further claimed that over 400 local government workers had been suspended and removed from the state government’s payroll for working with APC-reinstated officials, noting that the figure continues to rise.
On the endorsement of Oyebamiji, he said the decision followed a detailed assessment of the candidate.

“After thorough evaluation of the APC candidate for the August 15, 2026 election, Asiwaju Munirudeen Bola Oyebamiji (AMBO), our association has found him to be a credible leader worthy of support. We therefore direct all our members to back his candidacy to ensure his victory at the polls,” he said, adding that a symbolic gift was presented to the candidate on behalf of members.
Adekunle also called for the abolition of casualisation in government establishments, improved workplace safety, respect for labour unions, and increased investment in workers’ skills development.
In his remarks, Chairman of the Association of Local Governments of Nigeria (ALGON) in Osun State, Abiodun Idowu, pledged that council authorities would prioritise workers’ welfare, recruit qualified personnel to address manpower shortages, and sustain training programmes for staff and political office holders.
