There is tension in the Ndoro community, Ekeremo LGA, Bayelsa, following the murder of a middle aged woman (name withheld) in her sleep by an unknown assailant.

The shocking development has triggered fear across the community, with residents urging one another to remain vigilant and to take basic security precautions, including locking doors and monitoring unusual movements within the area.

It was learnt the woman said to be living alone went to bed without locking the door to her room, where she was murdered by her assailants in the night.

The Nation gathered that the victim's throat was slit with parts of the throat removed.

A source who spoke with The Nation on condition of anonymity, said an unidentified person gained access to the house and carried out the crime before fleeing the scene.

Although the authenticity of a video clip circulating on social media has not been verified, it showed the aftermath of the incident, with voices speaking Ijaw language describing what they believed to be the removal of parts of the victim's throat by the assailant.

Community leaders are calling on security agencies to launch a thorough investigation to identify those responsible and prevent further attacks.

They have also appealed for calm, warning against the spread of unverified graphic content while investigations are ongoing.

Bayelsa Police Command image maker, Mr Musa Mohammed, a deputy superintendent, confirmed the incident.

He added that no arrest has been made but that investigation is ongoing.
