The National Automotive Design and Development Council (NADDC) has launched a National Vehicle Dealership Registration Framework aimed at curbing rising cases of car theft and improving data tracking across Nigeria’s automotive sector.
Director-General of NADDC, Oluwemimo Joseph Osanipin, said the initiative would enable authorities to track the origin and movement of vehicles, as well as provide accurate data on those sold, stolen, or in circulation.
He explained that the framework is designed to offer insights into vehicle sources, sales patterns, and the types and brands of cars in the market, adding that the data generated would support investors and policymakers in the automotive manufacturing sector.
Osanipin, who spoke at the official launch, described the platform as a digital gateway intended to modernise and streamline automotive business operations in the country.
According to him, the framework was developed through extensive stakeholder engagement across multiple regions, incorporating inputs from key industry players, including the Association of Motor Dealers of Nigeria (AMDON).

“This framework reflects the collective input of industry stakeholders who have consistently called for transparency, professionalism, and a system that distinguishes certified dealers from informal operators,” he said.
He added that the initiative aligns with the National Automotive Industry Development Plan (NAIDP) 2023–2033, which seeks to position Nigeria as a hub for automotive production and investment.
Osanipin noted that the registration system would also enhance access to financing for registered dealers through partnerships with institutions such as the Bank of Industry, offering low-interest funding to support business expansion.
In addition, he said the framework would strengthen market regulation by ensuring that only certified dealers participate in government procurement and major corporate transactions under the Nigeria First policy.
The council expressed confidence that the initiative would improve transparency, strengthen regulation, and support the long-term growth of Nigeria’s automotive industry.
