As part of efforts to strengthen Civil-Military Relations (CMR), the Nigerian Air Force (NAF) at the weekend unveiled a new classroom and staff block at Edemaya Unity College, Ikot Abasi Local Government Area of Akwa Ibom State.

Executed under the Chief of the Air Staff (CAS) Special Intervention Project initiative, the projects included three classrooms, a principal’s office, and staff rooms in honour of retired Air Vice Marshal (AVM) Iboro Harry Etukudo, a native of the state.

Inaugurating the projects on behalf of the CAS, Air Marshal Sunday Aneke, the Chief of Civil-Military Relations, AVM Edward Gabkwet, said it was part of NAF’s efforts to foster trust and goodwill between the military and local communities.

He noted that 10 similar projects have been delivered nationwide, all aimed at supporting socio-economic development while maintaining ties with retired senior officers.

The CAS urged beneficiaries to maintain the facilities responsibly, encouraging youths to explore career opportunities within the NAF.

He appealed to communities to support security efforts with credible information.

The project facilitator, AVM Etukudo (rtd), expressed gratitude to the NAF for honouring him and his community, highlighting that the new block marks the beginning of development at the college’s permanent site.

He said the college was established to accommodate students who could not gain admission into government secondary schools, appealing to the Akwa Ibom State Government to consider expanding the institution.

Representing Governor Umo Eno, the Commissioner for Education, Professor Ubong Essien Umoh, commended the NAF for its commitment to grassroots development, noting that the project aligned with the state’s agenda to improve educational infrastructure.

Highpoint of the occasion was the conferment of a traditional title, “UFAN EDEMAYA" meaning "Friend of the People of Edemaya," on the CAS, as well as the presentation of a staff of honour, symbolizing partnership and appreciation.
