Super Eagles captain Wilfred Ndidi has suffered a hamstring injury during Istanbul derby, his club Beşiktaş have confirmed.

The Nigerian midfielder was forced off in the 85th  minute of Sunday’s clash against Fenerbahçe after picking up the injury. An MRI scan later confirmed the problem, and he has now begun treatment with the club’s medical team.

Ndidi’s afternoon was further complicated by a booking in the 52nd minute — his fourth of the season — which means he will miss Beşiktaş’s next Turkish Super Lig match against Alanyaspor due to suspension.

The 29-year-old is expected to spend some time on the sidelines as he focuses on recovery.
