Years of limited electricity supply at Ndokwa communities in Delta State have continued to shape daily life and economic activity, prompting renewed calls for urgent government intervention.
Amid growing concerns, stakeholders are advocating a more inclusive and transparent approach to resolve the power challenge.
To this extent, a group under the aegis of Light up Ndokwa Association (LUNA) has called on Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori to expedite action on the electrification of Ndokwa communities through the proposed Independent Power Project (IPP) Step-Down initiative.
In an open letter signed by its Ukwuani Local Government Area Coordinator, Comrade Igelige Chukunomnazu, the group appealed for sustained engagement with stakeholders, noting that earlier assurances by the state government to formally brief the association on plans to address the power situation were yet to be fulfilled.
The group recalled its recent peaceful ‘No Light, No Campaign’ protests in Asaba and Kwale, explaining that the demonstrations were aimed at drawing attention to the prolonged lack of electricity in the area and the need for urgent intervention.
While acknowledging ongoing infrastructure efforts by the state government, LUNA expressed concern about the continued absence of electricity in Ndokwa, describing it as a major development challenge requiring prompt attention.

The association urged the government to convene a town hall meeting involving community leaders, youths and other stakeholders to provide clarity on the “Light Up Delta” initiative as it affects Ndokwa.
It also requested a clear implementation roadmap and a time-bound commitment for the execution of the IPP Step-Down project in the area.
According to the group, improved electricity supply is vital for economic growth, enhanced security and the overall well-being of residents.
LUNA added that resolving the power challenge would strengthen public confidence in government efforts and promote inclusive development.
The association reaffirmed its commitment to peaceful and lawful advocacy, expressing optimism that constructive dialogue with the state government would yield positive outcomes for the people of Ndokwa.
