The Nkwerre Country Club in Nkwerre, Imo State, has been revitalised with a new tennis pavilion funded by Hon. Chidi Nwogu, a tennis aficionado and son of the soil, in memory of his late mother, Chief Mrs. Fanny Nwogu (Akpaka), who was herself a keen tennis player.

Nwogu, a former member of the House of Representatives, said he wanted to keep his mother's memory alive while contributing to sports development, recreation, and active living for community members and visiting players. The pair regularly played doubles together during her lifetime.

In recognition of his investment, the Nkwerre Country Club Executive Committee formally invested him as a Patron on Wednesday, April 8. The pavilion was simultaneously named the Honourable Chidi Nwogu Tennis Pavilion.

Club president Engr. Mike Ezeh said the development had left a lasting impact on the club's identity, noting that members and spectators previously had no grandstand of any kind from which to watch matches.

Also in attendance were Senator Patrick Ndubueze (Imo North), Senator Osita Izunaso (Imo West), Hon. Henry Nwauba, Executive Secretary of the National Assembly Library Fund, Hon. Harrison Nwadike, representing the Nkwerre/Nwangele/Isu/Njaba federal constituency, Dr. Goddy Jedy-Agba, former Minister of State for Power and Chairman/CEO of the Genesis Group, and Chief Nnaeto Orazuluike, among other elder statesmen.
