‘Okowa’s appointment well-deserved’

A member of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Delta State, Dr. Valentine Opone, has hailed the appointment of the immediate past governor of Delta State, Dr. Ifeanyi Arthur Okowa, as the Southsouth Coordinator of the Renewed Hope Initiative by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, saying he is the right man for the job.
Opone said no one deserves the appointment more than Okowa, who has the right training as a medical doctor and a wealth of experience, gained over the years from various offices and appointments at both the state and national levels.
The APC chieftain, who is a member of the United States and Nigeria Environmental Society (NES), is optimistic that Okowa will deliver, given his track record. He said: “He has risen through the ranks, including as local government chairman in his Ika domain, commissioner for Agriculture, Secretary to the Delta State Government, as well as the lawmaker that represented Delta North Senatorial District at the National Assembly from 2011 to 2015.”
He added: “He also galvanised the election of Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, a former speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, during the last general election.
“The appointment is well-deserved, owing to the wealth of experience Dr. Okowa has garnered over the years, as well as his robust strategic influence at home (Delta State) and the entire Southsouth region. Hence, he is an ideal candidate for the role.

“In the same vein, I sincerely applaud the president’s decision in recognising Dr. Okowa’s capacity to deliver. I am fully confident that Dr. Okowa and his team will succeed in the task ahead.
“You will recall that while in office as the governor of Delta State, Dr. Okowa’s notable achievements spanned across all facets of economy and development in the state, such as investment in infrastructure and agriculture, improved education and healthcare delivery, strengthened state security network, etc.
“It is in this regard that the people of the state poured encomiums on the former governor for his responsive leadership prowess, a unique, inclusive government style that brought peace and unity to the state to date, progressive policies, and visionary leadership.
“No doubt, the people of the Southsouth region will see this appointment as another milestone in regional representation in Mr. President’s cabinet.”
