Leaders and elders of All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State, through Ondo Elders Movement for Tinubu, have appealed to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to intervene and restore peace to the party amid violence and internal discord.

Following an urgent meeting in Ondo on Monday, the group in a communique opposed attacks on prominent APC members.

They portrayed the incident as a challenge to APC’s commitment to democracy, orderly conduct and non-violent resolution of disputes.

The Coordinator of Ondo APC Elders Movement, who is also the Secretary of the group, Otunba Agboola Kelly, said President Tinubu should intervene in the matter.

A group of suspected thugs associated with a drivers’ union had invaded the APC headquarters in Akure while a stakeholders’ session was underway in preparation for ward congresses.

Brandishing machetes, wooden planks and other weapons, they interrupted the gathering, physically attacked and demeaned high-ranking officials, and caused harm.

The state APC Chairman, Ade Adetimehin, bore the brunt of the aggression, as he was allegedly dragged on the ground, struck repeatedly and roundly beaten.

Other casualties included Otito Atikase (NDDC board representative for Ondo), ex-Deputy Speaker Abayomi Akinruntan, former Commissioner Saka-Yusuf Ogunleye, Demola Ijabiyi, a former chairman, Dayo Akinsuroju, Sola Ajisafe, a lawyer, Chief Bode Sunmonu, and the chairman’s aide, Friday Ogbaide.

They are all in hospital receiving treatment.
