All Progressives Congress (APC) in Ondo State has concluded its state congress with the inauguration of newly-elected executives, in what party leaders described as demonstration of unity and internal democracy.

The inauguration was held after the party announced a fresh congress on Tuesday night.

The fresh congress, held at the International Culture and Event Centre, The Dome, Akure, yesterday, attracted a large turnout of members, leaders, security agencies and observers from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa described the exercise as a significant moment for the party, noting that the orderly conduct of the congress reflected APC’s strength despite recent challenges.

Represented by his deputy, Dr. Olaide Adelami, Aiyedatiwa said the party had days earlier faced a court injunction, which initially threatened to disrupt its activities, announcing that the injunction had been vacated, allowing the congress to sail through smoothly.

He said the National Working Committee (NEC) intervened by setting up reconciliation mechanisms that brought aggrieved members and leaders together, resolved disputes and led to the vacation of the injunction, allowing the congress to proceed peacefully.

“We have proved that we are a law-abiding party. What matters most is that we have been able to resolve all issues that arose amicably.

“I commend our party leaders and members for their understanding and commitment to unity. Disagreements are natural in a large political family, but what matters most is the ability to resolve them amicably,” Aiyedatiwa said.

He lauded the party leaders and members for their understanding and commitment to unity, stressing that disagreements were natural in a large political family, but must always be resolved amicably.

The governor expressed confidence in the new executives’ ability to build on the achievements of the previous leadership, strengthen internal democracy and promote fairness, justice and unity within the party.

In his welcome address, Chairman of APC State Congress Committee, Comrade Ogonna Obiekwe, congratulated party members and described the congress as a reaffirmation of APC’s shared values of progress, fairness and unity.

He said he was honoured to serve as chairman of the exercise, adding that it reflected the party’s democratic strength and collective resolve to build a political platform that represented the aspirations of the people.

The newly-inaugurated Chairman, Babatunde Kolawole, said the new leadership would harness the wisdom of party leaders and the energy of the youth to strengthen the party ahead of forthcoming elections.

He assured members that under the leadership of Governor Aiyedatiwa, the party would continue to grow stronger.
