Club Brugge will be without Nigerian midfielder Raphael Onyedika for the return leg of their UEFA Champions League playoff against Atletico Madrid after he picked up his second booking of the competition.

The Super Eagles star was instrumental in Wednesday’s thrilling 3-3 draw, scoring once and providing an assist in a dramatic encounter that saw Atletico surrender a 2-0 lead.

However, his yellow card means he will miss the decisive second leg in Spain.

Club Brugge coach Ivan Leko acknowledged the magnitude of the loss.

“We don’t have another Rapha, so we’ll have to find another solution,” Leko said. “Now we focus on our league match, then we turn attention to the return leg. We believe in our football.”

Despite the suspension setback, Spanish media were unanimous in their praise.

Marca identified Onyedika as one of the standout performers, highlighting his energy and influence in midfield.

Sport described him as “dynamic,” noting that his drive and composure helped Club Brugge regain control after Atletico’s early dominance.

The outlet reported that while Atletico initially appeared comfortable, the Belgians responded through the dynamism of Onyedika and his teammates.

His absence next week will undoubtedly test Brugge’s tactical balance—but his performance has already earned continental respect.
