The Plateau academic community comprising lecturers, staff and students said it has set in motion intellectual advocacy, voters’ sensitisation and grassroots outreach that will guarantee smooth electioneering programme for the re-election of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Governor Caleb Mutfwang yesterday.

Coordinator of Plateau Academics for Tinubu/Mutfwang 2027, Associate Prof. Augustine Azi, made this known while inaugurating the group in Jos on Friday.

According to Prof Azi, "I stand before you today as the Coordinator of Academics for Mutfwang/Tinubu 2027, and our gathering here is not just the inauguration of a political support platform, but the beginning of an intellectual movement within the academic community of Plateau State.

Azi said, "As scholars, educators, and thought leaders, we occupy a unique position in society. Our voices carry influence, our ideas shape policy discussions, and our actions often inspire communities far beyond the walls of our institutions.

"Plateau State is home to more than twenty federal, state, and private tertiary institutions. Within these institutions are over fifteen thousand academic staff and approximately three hundred and fifty thousand students.

"This makes the academic community one of the most powerful centres of thought leadership and social influence in our state. It is therefore both strategic and necessary that the academic community organises itself to participate meaningfully in the political and developmental direction of our state and our nation".

Prof Azi stressed that the formation of Academics for Mutfwang/Tinubu 2027, "is anchored on the conviction that governance must be supported by informed voices, credible analysis, and constructive engagement.

"We believe that the leadership of Governor Caleb Manasseh Mutfwang in Plateau State and the leadership of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu at the national level represent an opportunity for continuity, stability, and progressive reforms.

Patron of the group, Prof Lazarus Maigoro, who is the Provost of College of Education, Gindiri said, "Our decision to come as a group for the second term project is to be part of the decision making and take interest in how to make the academic better under the current administration.

Chief of Staff to Gov Mutfwang, Jeremiah Satmark, appreciated the academic community for the gesture.
