The attack, which occurred late Monday night, left one person dead, another injured, and about 1,400 sheep rustled by the assailants.
According to the Police Public Relations Officer of the command, ASP Nahum Kenneth Daso, the incident was reported to the Konduga Police Division by officials of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association in the area.
Daso said the attackers, described as unknown gunmen riding on five motorcycles, stormed the settlement at about 10:30 p.m. on March 10 and opened fire on residents.
“Preliminary investigations revealed that during the attack, one Ahmadu Baida, 40, sustained fatal gunshot injuries, while another victim, Mohammadu Baida, 30, suffered a gunshot wound on his left leg,” he said.
He added that the gunmen also rustled about 1,400 sheep belonging to herders in the settlement before fleeing the area.
The police spokesman said a combined security team comprising the police, military, Civilian Joint Task Force (CJTF), and local hunters, led by the Divisional Police Officer in Konduga, was immediately mobilised to the scene following the report.
According to him, the victims were evacuated to a hospital where Ahmadu Baida was confirmed dead on arrival by a medical doctor, while the injured victim is currently receiving treatment and responding positively.
Daso further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in Borno State, CP Naziru Abdulmajid, has directed intensified operations to track down the perpetrators and recover the rustled livestock.
“In response to the incident, the Command has activated coordinated operational strategies with relevant security agencies and community stakeholders to track down the perpetrators, prevent further attacks, and recover the rustled livestock,” he said.
He added that tactical and intelligence assets had been strategically deployed across the affected community and adjoining areas to strengthen security presence.
The police command also commiserated with the family of the deceased and reassured residents of its commitment to safeguarding lives and property across the state.
