The race for the Nigeria Premier Football League goal king crown has intensified into a thrilling three-way battle, with Victor Mbaoma muscling his way back into the spotlight.
The seasoned forward struck his 12th goal of the campaign for Remo Stars, netting a consolation in their narrow 2–1 defeat to his former side, Enyimba. Though it wasn’t enough to salvage points, the goal ensured Mbaoma remains firmly in contention for the golden boot.

He now shares the summit with Joseph Arumala of Ikorodu City and Katsina United’s Uche Collins, both of whom have also tallied 12 goals in an increasingly competitive scoring chart.
At 29, Mbaoma is no stranger to the spotlight. Having previously played in Algeria and Rwanda, the striker is chasing a second Goal King title after first claiming the honour with Enyimba in 2021.
Hot on their heels are Godwin Obaje of Enugu Rangers, Chidera Michael of Enyimba and Emeka Obioma of Abia Warriors, the trio are on 11 goals each, while a cluster of other forwards remain within striking distance with 10 goals each. This has set up a dramatic run-in to the season’s conclusion.
