The National Secretary of the All Progressives Congress, Senator Ajibola Basiru, has urged Nigerians not to interpret challenges and tribulations as divine punishment, but as tests designed to strengthen faith and character, as Muslims across the country observe the holy month of Ramadan.

Basiru made the call while delivering the 5th Ramadan lecture of Al Tasnim in Osogbo, Osun State. He explained that Allah tested the Prophets and past generations through various trials to measure the depth of their faith and devotion.

The APC scribe cited the example of Prophet Ayyub, who, despite being blessed with wealth and comfort, lost everything in extraordinary circumstances but remained steadfast in faith.

He noted, “Prophet Ayyub didn't despair. He faced the tribulations with patience and steadfast in Allah. At the end of the day,Allaah healed him of the sickness and returned all he had lost in wealth and family. Almighty Allah always tells believers in many ways, in terms of their health, livelihood and even hunger.

“But it is important that we pray to Almighty God and whenever He does good things for us, we must be grateful. In the context of our nation building, it teaches us to have faith in perseverance and believe in him that things will be okay.”

Basiru also referenced “Prophet Ibraheem who was given a child at old age, saying despite he had a dream that he slaughtered the child, he decided to make it a reality by slaughtering Ismaheel but the patience of the father and son gave birth to the Islamic World we are all proud of today.”

He stressed that trials and tribulations are meant for humans but Muslims should confront the two with prayers, patience and perseverance.

Earlier, Dr Zaynab Shittu-Adenuga of the Faculty of Law, Fountain University, Osogbo harped on the need for parents to raise their children with the fear of Allah and instil Islamic virtue in their wards.

Also, the convener of Al Tasnim, Chief Magistrate Habeebah Basiru explained that she decided to be holding the Annual Ramadhan Lecture for spiritual growth and renewal and to reach out to the less privileged.
