Chief Whip of the House of Representatives, Usman Bello Kumo, has endorsed the consensus candidate for the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Gombe State, urging his supporters to join the consensus train and work towards the party's victory in the state.
Kumo, who was one of the top contenders for the governorship ticket for Gombe State, said he was committed to the success of the APC at all levels, while admitting that he actively participated in all meetings where a consensus candidate was decided.
In a statement on Wednesday night, Kumo said, “Ahead of the 2027 General Elections, our great party, the All Progressives Congress (APC), has been making preparations aimed at a successful election and victory for the party in the forthcoming polls.
“As a leader and critical stakeholder in the party, I have taken part in the lawmaking processes that produced the Electoral Act 2026 (As Amended). I have also participated in all the decision-making processes of our great party as regards the "Consensus or Direct Primary" arrangement to choose the flagbearers for elective positions at various levels.
“My interest and desire to take a shot at the governorship position in Gombe State was not hidden. I had been keenly awaiting the party's decision on either a direct primary contest or a consensus for the APC governorship ticket, to enable me to contest the forthcoming gubernatorial election.
“However, with the consensus option validly adopted and affirmed in accordance with the party's position, I am left with no better option than to tow the party line.
“As a loyal party man, I therefore would like to express my candid support and confidence in the process and outcome of the just-concluded Gombe State APC Congress that has produced a consensus candidate and flagbearer for the governorship race in Gombe State.
“This, I do with a strong conviction and confidence in the leadership of the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces, President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR), and in my unshaken belief in the leadership style of our leader and Governor Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya, himself, is a proven Democrat.
“I hereby call on my teeming supporters and loyalists across the state to abide by the party's position and brace up to work to ensure victory for all our candidates in the next elections.”
