Relief and celebration swept through Warri last week, as no fewer than 1,000 bags of rice were distributed to traders at the bustling Main Market and Ogbe-Ijoh Market.

The kind gesture, organised to mark the birthday anniversary of the Managing Director of Tantita Security Services Nigeria Limited (TSSNL), High Chief Kestin Pondi, triggered scenes of excitement, as traders and buyers rushed toward a vehicle parked on Warri–Sapele Road where 10-kilogramme branded bags of rice were being handed out.

The Nation observed jubilant traders, mostly women, carrying the bags on their heads, dancing and chanting prayers for the celebrant in open appreciation of the rare show of generosity.

For many, the rice symbolised more than food; it was a momentary easing of the daily struggle to survive in the harsh economic climate.

Traders at the Warri Main Market described the gesture as both thoughtful and timely.
