…adjourns plenary till March 31st

The Senate of Nigeria on Thursday confirmed the nomination of former Kebbi State governor, Usman Isa Dakingari, for appointment as a Non-Career Ambassador.

The red chamber also approved the appointment of Ismail Abba Yusuf as Chairman and Chief Executive Officer of the National Hajj Commission of Nigeria.

The confirmations followed the Senate’s consideration and adoption of the report of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, chaired by Abubakar Sani Bello.

In a related development, the Senate also confirmed the nomination of Jamila Abubakar-Sadiq, a retired Rear Admiral representing the North-East, for appointment as National Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission.

The confirmation followed the presentation and consideration of the report of the Committee on Electoral Matters, chaired by Simon Lalong.

Meanwhile, the Senate adjourned plenary until March 31, 2026, to enable lawmakers to observe the upcoming Eid al-Fitr and Easter celebrations.

However, Senate President Godswill Akpabio said legislative activities would continue at the committee level during the break. He added that work on the 2026 Appropriation Bill should be concluded so that the report would be ready for passage when the Senate resumes plenary.
