Yeye Bobajiro Oodua, Chief Mrs. (Dr.) Afolashade Shona-Aluko has been honoured at the Most Influential 50 African Women Awards, in recognition of her contributions to humanitarian and social development causes.

The awards, held in Sierra Leone, celebrate women leaders across Africa for excellence, leadership and transformative impact in sectors including governance, business, health, education, agriculture, advocacy and culture.

Speaking at the event, Shona-Aluko expressed appreciation to the organisers for the recognition, describing it as a reflection of the growing influence of women across various sectors.

“I am honoured, and this recognition is a testament that the world sees what we are doing and the value women bring across all sectors. The era when women are segregated is over; we are now well-equipped and making meaningful contributions to national development,” she said.

Her philanthropic work is largely focused on supporting children with disabilities, women's empowerment and youth mentorship. Through her initiatives, she promotes vocational training programmes in areas such as hairdressing, tailoring and baking, aimed at enhancing women's financial independence.

Reflecting on her journey from a classroom teacher to a recognised entrepreneur and philanthropist, she attributed her success to consistency and dedication.

“I did not run after the throne; the throne found me through hard work,” she said, adding that sustained effort and commitment inevitably attract recognition.

The organisers said the award seeks to spotlight women making significant contributions to societal progress across the continent.
