Supporters back Mohammed’s APM defection, begin mobilisation
A coalition of 72 organisations, comprising civil society groups and political advocacy bodies, has declared support for Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party

A coalition of 72 organisations, comprising civil society groups and political advocacy bodies, has declared support for Bauchi State Governor, Bala Mohammed, following his defection from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the Allied Peoples Movement (APM).
The endorsement was announced during a solidarity rally organised by the Bala Abdulkadir Mohammed Vanguard (BAMV), led by its Director-General and National Leader, Mohammed Abubakar Jibo
Mohammed announced his exit from the PDP on May 2, this year, citing internal crises within the party, particularly following a Supreme Court’s ruling on its leadership structure.
Jibo described the governor’s defection as a “strategic realignment” rooted in patriotism and a commitment to sustainable development.
According to him, the decision followed extensive consultations and careful consideration, expressing confidence in the Governor’s capacity to secure victory in 2027 under the APM platform.

He added that the governor’s leadership over the past seven years has delivered significant development across all 20 local government areas of Bauchi, adding that the achievements of the administration surpass those recorded in the previous four decades.
The coalition also reaffirmed its commitment to embark on a statewide sensitisation campaign aimed at educating residents on the reasons behind the defection and mobilising support for the Governor and other APM candidates.
Several speakers at the rally likened Mohammed’s leadership style to that of notable Nigerian statesmen, including Ahmadu Bello and Abubakar Tafawa Balewa.
To consolidate the political transition, BAMV inaugurated a State Executive Council (SEC) tasked with coordinating grassroots mobilisation and strengthening the party’s structure across the state.
The rally served both as a public endorsement of the Governor’s political move and the inauguration of a mobilisation committee ahead of next year’s general elections.
