‘Tinubu can’t be blamed for crisis in PDP, ADC’
A stalwart of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Ondo State, Dr. Abass Mimiko, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be blamed for the ‘internal crisis’ rocking opposition parties

A stalwart of Zenith Labour Party (ZLP) in Ondo State, Dr. Abass Mimiko, has said President Bola Ahmed Tinubu should not be blamed for the ‘internal crisis’ rocking opposition parties ahead of 2027 general election.
Mimiko, who was the ZLP governorship candidate in the 2025 governorship election in Ondo State, attributed wrangling in opposition parties to weakness and poor organisations among leaders of the parties.
The younger brother to former Ondo State governor Olusegun Mimiko said this yesterday while speaking to reporters on the state of the nation in Akure.
He said: “People want to blame the President because his party (APC) is getting bigger and stronger and the opposition is getting weaker. I don’t like that personally. I don’t like the idea that PDP is virtually dead, I don’t like the idea that ADC is wobbling.

“But why do you want to blame the president for that? Oh! He’s hounding them. He’s putting them in jail. Hound what? Oh, because you’re contesting or running for president or running for an office. EFCC doesn’t have the right to say, look, come and account.
“So I think it’s being sentimental to say he’s killing opposition. He put the INEC chairman there. The man has done very well as far as I’m concerned. That’s my opinion. I don’t think there’s any evidence that he’s stifling the opposition. No credible evidence.”
Mimiko, a psychiatrist, also dismissed claims that the President is undermining opposition politics, explaining that defections are voluntary and driven by political interests.
He says Nigeria under the current administration is not at the risk of becoming a ‘one-party state,’ stressing that key opposition figures remain active in the country as the 2027 general election approaches.
The ZLP chieftain cited main opposition figures like Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar and Rabiu Kwankwaso as examples of critics in the country, who remain active voices in national discourse.
