Super Eagles striker Taiwo Awoniyi has emerged as a strong contender for the English Premier League Player of the Week after a standout performance for Nottingham Forest in their stunning 3–1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on Monday.
In just his second start of the season, Awoniyi delivered a complete centre-forward display. He opened the scoring with an early header, won a penalty that led to a second goal, then capped an unforgettable night with a third.
His performance combined physical presence, sharp movement, and clinical finishing — all the hallmarks of a top striker stepping up when it matters most.

However, the competition is fierce. Thierno Barry impressed with a quick-fire brace for Everton, while Jeremy Doku produced two moments of brilliance to rescue Manchester City. Viktor Gyökeres delivered a complete attacking performance for Arsenal with two goals and an assist, and Kobbie Mainoo controlled midfield and scored a decisive winner for Manchester United. Bukayo Saka and Conor Gallagher also made strong cases with influential displays for their clubs.
Yet Awoniyi's impact stands out — not just for the numbers, but for the timing and significance of his contribution to Forest's fight for survival.
It is a performance that could define his season and cement his growing reputation on the Premier League stage.
Awoniyi has now scored four goals and registered an assist from 14 league appearances this season.
