Mysterious fire in the early hours of Saturday gutted a popular motor park in Ilorin, the capital of Kwara state.

The fire in the process affected two vehicles and destroyed them.

The fire outbreak happened around 2:48 am at the Sawmill Garage, Odo-Okun Area, Ilorin, Kwara State.

Spokesperson of the state Fire Service Hassan Adekunle confirmed the incident.

Adekunle said that "the incident involved a motor park accommodating about 38 vehicles.

"Upon arrival, firefighters discovered that two vehicles were affected by the fire: a Toyota Sienna and an 18-seater bus with registration numbers JJJ876HJ and KSF223SK, respectively.

“Information gathered from the driver of the affected bus revealed that he had arrived from a long-distance journey the previous afternoon and was waiting for his turn to convey passengers the next day. However, in the early hours of the morning, while he was asleep, he suddenly noticed that his bus had caught fire. "Efforts were immediately made by those at the garage to move other vehicles away to isolate the burning bus, but unfortunately, a Toyota Sienna parked close to the affected bus also caught fire."

He revealed that firemen brought the fire under control at about 03:03 am, preventing it from spreading to the remaining vehicles within the garage.
