Nigerian sprint sensation Favour Ashe has set his sights firmly on a podium sweep at the upcoming CAA African Senior Athletics Championships in Accra, Ghana, following a powerhouse performance at the World Relays.
Fresh from helping Team Nigeria secure qualification for the 2027 World Athletics Championships in China, Ashe is brimming with confidence ahead of the continental showdown. The championships, which kick off on May 12, are expected to host over 1,000 elite athletes representing 50 African nations.
The 100m specialist played a pivotal role in Nigeria’s relay success in Gaborone, where the team not only booked a spot for the global championships in Beijing but also clinched qualification for the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championship in Budapest this September.
Now, with the focus shifting to Accra, Ashe is making no secret of his golden ambitions.
“I’m in peak physical condition. My goal in Accra is simple: win the 100m gold and lead the relay team to the top of the podium,” Ashe declared confidently.
Reflecting on the team’s recent exploits in Botswana, the speedster expressed satisfaction with the results, particularly as a response to pre-competition sceptics.
“Before the championships, there was a lot of noise—people saying ‘Ashe is finished’—but I have proven my worth on the track,” he said. “I give all the glory to God for what we achieved as a team.”
The sprinter revealed that the wave of negativity from certain quarters did little to shake his resolve. Instead, he noted that the criticism served as fuel to deliver a statement performance on the world stage.
With momentum firmly on his side, Ashe heads to Ghana determined to crown his resurgence with continental glory, effectively turning doubters into believers one race at a time.
