Akinluwa disclosed that six countries — South Africa, Kenya, Algeria, Zimbabwe, Ghana and Benin Republic — have already confirmed their participation and will be joined by host nation Nigeria, whose cyclists have been in camp following national trials conducted at the same venue last month.
"South Africa is coming with 27 cyclists, Kenya 21, Zimbabwe 5, and Algeria with 21," Akinluwa said, adding, "We don't know how many cyclists Ghana and Benin Republic would be coming with. Team Nigeria's list would be released in a few days."
Meanwhile, the Technical Director of the CFN, Bashir Mohammed, said Team Nigeria would be represented by 17 cyclists in the Para-Track Championship. The Track Championship will feature 10 elite men, six elite women, six junior boys, six junior girls, six cyclists in the B-Class — three male and three female — and five cyclists in the C1–5 categories.
Mohammed commended NSC Chairman Mallam Shehu Dikko and Director General Hon. Bukola Olopade for approving the budget submitted by the CFN for the championships, assuring them that the federation would host a hitch-free event.
