The Chairman of Warri South Local Government Area of Delta State, Comr. Agbateyiniro Isaac, has urged traditional and religious leaders to use their positions to spread accurate information on vaccines, to dispel rumours and “ensure no child is left behind” in the ongoing Measles Rubella Vaccine (MRV) immunisation.
Agbateyiniro, represented by his wife, Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro, gave the advice at Warri South Council Sub-Secretariat, Warri, during the kick-off of MRV immunisation in the area.
He lauded development partners, including the World Health Organisation (WHO), UNICEF and GAVI for their support, noting that the MRV was being administered to children aged nine months to 14 years in schools, health facilities, churches, mosques, markets and other strategic locations across the area.

WHO representative, Owvighose Darlington Obaro, said the immunisation would last 12 days, after which the vaccines would be available only at health centres, adding that only children under two years would continue to benefit afterwards.
He noted that the exercise began on January 31 and that sick persons were exempted.
The event featured goodwill messages from health and education stakeholders, while the high point was the immunisation of eligible children by Mrs. Roli Agbateyiniro and other officials.
Dignitaries present included officials of the local government and education authorities, women leaders, members of the National Council of Women Societies, breastfeeding mothers, teachers and pupils from Cavegina and Mowoe primary schools, Warri.
