Edo State Government has assured German government that efforts were being made by the Governor Monday Okpebholo administration to resolve issues concerning the Museum of West African Arts (MOWAA).

It hailed the German government and other donors for their contributions to the Archaeological Pavilion.

Commissioner for Arts, Culture and Creative Economy Chris Okaeben spoke in Benin City when he received the Consul-General of the Federal Republic of Germany, Mr. Daniel Krull.

He said the German government had sustained cultural diplomacy with Edo State and urged it to participate in the Edo at 35 Festival (EDOFEST).

The commissioner called for increased partnership in the training and skill horning of young and talented youths in the areas of film production, bronze, metal, fine arts and woodworks, cultural exchange and vocational training.

He hoped leveraging the cultural assets would further deepen the relationship between Edo State and Germany, leading to more development initiatives as well as opportunities for youths in the creative industry.

He said: “Let me take this opportunity to invite Mr. Krull to attend EDOFEST, promising a memorable cultural experience showcasing Edo State’s rich heritage.

“We appreciate the earlier opportunities provided by Germany through the GIZ on film production and we will continue to ask for more from the German government.

“The rich cultural heritage of Edo State, including its vibrant arts, music and festivals, has not only showcased our unique identity, but also attracted German interest, paving the way for mutually- beneficial partnerships.

“As a government, we’re working to resolve the issues surrounding MOWAA and we are grateful for Germany’s financial contributions to the Archaeological Pavilion.”

Krull promised to deepen economic and cultural ties with Edo State by supporting Nigeria’s creative sector as well as economic development.

Describing Edo as a land of opportunities, the Consul-General said his visit was to foster strategic collaboration between Edo State and Germany on cultural and development initiatives.
