Founder and General Overseer Omega Power Ministries (OPM) HRM King Apostle Chibuzor Gift Chinyere has distributed iPads to all children in OPM free school for autism and down-syndrome in commemoration of World Autism Day 2026.
In a ceremony held in their honor at his residence in GRA Port Harcourt recently, the cleric affirmed that every life has value and that is why his passion for humanity endeared him to built a free school for autism.
He said: "I have a strong belief that every life has value and that is why because of the passion I have for humanity, I decided to establish a free school for Autism. I look at the way Autism children are treated, they are neglected."
April 2 every year is set aside by the United Nations as world Autism Awareness Day. The theme for this year 2026 is "Autism and Humanity - Every Life Has Value "
The 2026 theme highlights and affirms the dignity and worth of all autistic people.
While there are intentional human rights conventions safeguarding the rights of People with autism, they continue to face stigma, discrimination and barriers to participation.
In order to break the barrier and stop the stigma and discrimination against autistic children, King Chibuzor Chinyere built an autism school and normal school together while the teachers in autistic school are more professionals Separate from other teachers from the normal school.
This idea brought all the children together as they play together in the same environment without discrimination or any form of stigmatization.
"I sat down and said in order to break that barrier of discrimination and any form of stigmatisation, I decided to put up an autistic school and normal school together.
"The teachers in Autism school are special teachers. So during the break time the students meet together and play. That is how I was able to break that barrier" he said.
This year's theme, thus is a call to action to recognise the inherent dignity and equal rights of all people with autism.
According to the cleric, the iPads distributed to the autistic children has some educational materials on it to assist their learning.
He said: "There are some educational materials that has been downloaded on the iPad which they will use to learn."
The monarch called for equal education, good health healthcare facilities and care for all persons with autism and to provide inclusive opportunities to participate and thrive along with others.
He reiterated the need to recognise and value every autistic child and treat them as human beings.
"Every child has value, every child need to be treated as a human being"
