Yusuf’s ex-commissioner Doguwa emerges Kano APC chairman

Former Commissioner of Water Resources, Umar Haruna Doguwa, has been elected the new chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.

Doguwa was elected alongside other party executives at its State Congress held on Wednesday at the Sani Abacha Indoor Sports Hall, Kano.

The new party executives were returned elected through consensus.

At the end of the election, conducted by a team of officials from the APC national headquarters in Abuja, Doguwa and the other new executives were returned elected through a voice-vote affirmation by the 2,420 delegates drawn from the 44 local government chapters of the party in the state.

Other officials elected during the exercise included Salisu Maje Ahmed Gwangwazo, State Deputy Chairman, Prof. Yusuf Mohammed Bichi, State Secretary, and Fatima Dala, State Woman Leader.

The rest included Nura Yaro, Assistant Secretary, Abdul Adamu (SAN), Legal Adviser, Farouq Abdullahi Garo, Financial Secretary, Salisu Yahaya, Youth Leader, and Abubakar Salisu, Auditor.

The election was supervised by an INEC team led by the State Resident Electoral Commissioner, Ann. Abdu Zango.

The newly-elected executives were sworn in soon after the exercise was completed.

Governor Abba Yusuf and the Deputy President of the Senate, Barau Jibrin, were among the party chieftains who participated in the congresses.

In his acceptance speech, Doguwa promised to work with all party stakeholders to ensure its victory in the 2027 general elections.

Governor Abba Yusuf congratulated the new executives and urged them to justify the confidence reposed in them.

The governor urged them to work hard to consolidate the party’s gains and ensure victory for the party in all future elections.
