Leaders of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in Ado Local Government Area of Ekiti State have adopted the Senate Leader, Michael Bamidele, and a member of the House of Representatives, Steve Olusola Fatoba, as consensus candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The party leaders endorsed Bamidele as the APC consensus candidate for Ekiti Central Senatorial District, while Fatoba was adopted as the party’s candidate for Ekiti Central Federal Constituency I.

The decisions were taken at a meeting of APC leaders and stakeholders in Ado Local Government, attended by party faithful from across the 13 wards in the state capital.

The motion for Bamidele’s adoption was moved by the Deputy Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Hon. Bolaji Egbeyemi Olagbaju, and seconded by the Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Special Duties, Albert Talabi, and received wide support from members present.

Similarly, the motion endorsing Fatoba for a third term was moved by the Chairman of Ado Local Government, Chief Bode Osaloni, and seconded by the Director-General, Office of Community Communications, Mrs. Mary Oso-Omotoso, with members affirming the decision through a voice vote.

One of the aspirants for the House of Representatives seat and Chairman of Ado Central LCDA, Engr. Toyin Ojo stepped down in favor of Fatoba, pledging his support for the consensus arrangement.

Speaking at the meeting, a former Deputy Governor, Prof. Modupe Adelabu, commended party members for their unity and political maturity, describing the consensus arrangement as a necessary step to preserve cohesion within the party.

She said, “In politics, not everyone can emerge at the same time. What is important is the ability to prioritize the collective interest above personal ambition. The strength of our party lies in our unity, and that unity must be protected at all costs.

“This decision may be difficult for some, but it is one that positions us for victory. I appeal to those who may feel aggrieved to remain committed to the party. Your time will surely come, and the party will not forget your loyalty and sacrifice.”

The Leader of the APC, Ado Ekiti Local Government Chapter, Remi Oguntuase, said that the consensus arrangement should not be seen as a victory for any individual but as a demonstration of party discipline and unity ahead of the elections.

He charged members to close ranks and intensify mobilization efforts towards ensuring victory for the APC in future elections, particularly the governorship poll

Responding, Fatoba thanked Governor Biodun Oyebanji, the Ewi of Ado-Ekiti, Oba Rufus Adejugbe, and party leaders for the confidence reposed in him, assuring them that he would not take the opportunity for granted.

He admitted that there were areas where expectations had not been fully met in his previous terms, but pledged to redouble his efforts to deliver more impactful representation.

The federal lawmaker pledged that if re-elected, he would focus on attracting more federal projects to the constituency, expanding empowerment programs, and strengthening interventions in education, infrastructure, and youth development.
