A Lagos politician, Mr. Idowu Daramola, has said the Accord Party (AP) in Lagos State will repeat the feat it had in the 2015 general election.

Daramola, who disclosed this in Mushin, Lagos, at the weekend, said he decided to defect from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to AP, to energise members of the latter as the 2027 general elections draw closer.

The grassroots politician, who also used the occasion to publicly declare for AP, said he will contest for the House of Representatives in next year’s election.

In 2015, AP had a real electoral impact. The party produced a House of Representatives member: Dauda Kako-Are (Mushin I constituency), defeating the incumbent APC candidate.

Speaking on his decision to join AP, Daramola, the leader of All4BAT Group in the state, said he had served the ruling party for almost 30 years and thought it wise to find another political platform to represent his constituency and bring dividends of democracy to the people.

He said his connection with the grassroots has sustained his relevance in politics, adding that he has been able to deliver bloc votes for his former party.

According to him, he was decamping with all his loyalists to the Accord Party.

“I've been in politics for over 25 years.  I started with Alliance for Democracy (AD), to Action Congress of Nigeria (CAN), to APC, and now AP.

“One thing that has counted for me is that I've been a grassroots mobiliser.

“Ahead of the 2023 election, with my group, All4BAT, I led over 5,000 delegates from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to the APC.

“I am decamping with all my supporters to pursue my political dream to lift my constituency.

He criticized politicians who are fond of accumulating wealth for themselves.

It is foolish for anyone representing the people to acquire multiple properties.

“Democracy is about the people who should enjoy its dividends. But, we find many of our politicians amassing wealth for themselves and their families at the detriment of the people they are elected to serve.

“Having done much introspection alongside my loyalists, we concluded that our people in this locality are not being fairly represented. “So, they're urging me to take on the task of representing them.”

He boasted of AP’s acceptance in his local government, expressing confidence that under his new party, he would trounce all candidates of other political parties in the forthcoming election.

“Accord Party is very strong in this ward and the local government in Lagos. The party had a representative in the House of Representatives.

“Accord Party in Odi-Olowo Mushin is the party to beat. AP is grounded here.

“APC can't win this locality. The party (APC) isn't on ground here”, he enthused.

“We're confident that the party will trounce the incumbent because we know that our people are looking for quality representation.

“Since the news of my defection became public knowledge, members of the Accord Party have been so excited.

On why he thinks voters will back his aspiration, he said:  “I am a popular politician in this constituency, and I know where the shoes pinch the voters.

He boasted of his popularity and acceptance by voters across party lines within the locality.
